Signs of Overwatering
Yellowing lower leaves, a soft mushy stem base, and leaves that droop and stay droopy even after watering all point to overwatering.
Signs of Underwatering
Thirsty pileas curl their round leaves downward like a taco and feel thin and papery; the soil often pulls away from the sides of the pot.
Adjusting for the Seasons
Growth slows a lot in winter and the plant needs noticeably less water - low light can also cause leggy, uneven growth if the pot isn't rotated.
Pro Tip
Rotate the pot a quarter turn every week - pileas grow strongly toward their light source and go lopsided fast if left facing one way.
