Signs of Overwatering
Soft, mushy stem tissue near the soil line and leaves that yellow starting from the base are the clearest overwatering signs on this dracaena.
Signs of Underwatering
Leaf tips turn brown and crispy, and older leaves near the bottom of the cane yellow and drop off one at a time.
Adjusting for the Seasons
Growth slows dramatically in winter under most indoor light, so cut watering back by roughly half to avoid waterlogging a plant that isn't using much of it.
Pro Tip
Like other dracaenas, this plant is very sensitive to fluoride and chlorine in tap water, which shows up as brown leaf-tip burn - use filtered or distilled water, or let tap water sit out overnight before using it.
