Signs of Overwatering
Soft, translucent brown patches on the leaves and a swampy smell from the pot are signs of overwatering; the thick water-storing roots rot easily if left sitting in water.
Signs of Underwatering
Brown, crispy tips are extremely common on spider plants and are usually caused by dry air or tap water minerals rather than underwatering alone, though prolonged drought will cause the whole leaf to fold and pale.
